The most important event in the history of Rolex was the creation, in 1926, of the the world's first waterproof wristwatch; the Oyster. The Rolex Oyster watch is unique because of the perfect marriage between case, crystal and winding crown into an extremely strong unit. From the start of production to the final quality control, it takes a full year to complete an Oyster movement with its 220 individual components. All Rolex Oyster Perpetual models are fitted with an automatic winding mechanical movement- the Perpetual Rotor, patented by Rolex in 1931, transforms the slightest wrist movement into a source of energy.
